Study abroad newsletter

Project description and takeaways
As I was preparing to leave for my six-week long study abroad program at the University of Oxford this summer, I couldn't stop thinking about ways I could balance soaking each experience in, keeping my friends and family in the loop, and always living in the moment. While I was packing I realized that an email newsletter might just be the way to do it. It would allow me to show pictures and tell stories to the people back home without feeling like I had to constantly be on my phone sending updates.

I utilized the platform beehiiv to send out weekly recaps to anyone who wanted to subscribe. I was able to include pictures with captions as well as use paragraph text to talk about my classes, travels, favorite meals, and more! My favorite thing about the email newsletter is that while it was a great way for me to keep friends and family updated, it also helped me to document more of my trip. I took sooo many pictures and made note of countless experiences to put in the newsletter, and I don’t know that I would have done that to such a great extent otherwise. I also loved how many conversations the newsletter sparked. I really loved when people would send me screenshots or call and ask questions about different things that I wrote about. Overall, the newsletter was a perfect way for me to document my trip and keep in touch with loved ones.

Purpose
