The Finest Hour

UGA Theatre—March 2026
The Finest Hour examines themes of love, loss, racial pressure, and grief through the eyes of graduating high school senior Layla Everett. Trying to finish high school, take care of her sister, write a book, impress her mother, earn scholarship money, and be a loyal friend is exhausting Layla, she can't help but feel like her time is running out. When it is all feeling like too much, she turns to her book and her sister for comfort. Abdelrahman’s writing challenges audiences to reflect inward—showing them first-hand how difficult it can be to be a Black girl raised by a single mother in a majority-White town.

Each year, UGA Theatre selects one student written and produced piece to be integrated into their mainstage season—The Finest Hour was chosen for 2025-2026. Written by my dear friend Arwa Abdelrahman, this collection of photos is special to me because it showcases the hard work of so many talented artists who I am lucky to call peers and friends.
